My name is Omie Garba I go by Oumië
Where are you from?
I was born in Gambia west Africa but I grew up in Sweden
When did you start making music?
I was introduced to music at an early age my mom always played music in the house. And my brother was into music as well I think ultimately that’s what inspired me to get more into music. . At the age of 12, I wanted to pursue music in a more professional way and was in a group called MCO.
Where can we find you most, in the studio or in the club?
I’m very dedicated to my art so you would most likely find me in the studio. Don’t get me wrong I do like meeting new people however my music comes first.
Who is your childhood hero?
I used to listen to Brandy Norwood and Lauren Hill and Mariah Carry.
What’s the best way for someone reading this to find you on social media, what’s your main platform?
I’m on Instagram that’s the platform that I use the most right now.
Do you have anything to share with the fans, any hints on new songs or collaborations?
I have 3 singles out now on Spotify and all the streaming platforms and I have some new music coming soon I plan on releasing my EP this year and I do have some collaborations lined up but nothing I can share as of yet stay tuned.
To my fans never stop dreaming and always dream big and don’t take no for an answer always push yourself to do more and get better.
What’s Your Backstory?
I was born in the beautiful West African country The Gambia the Land of Kunta Kinte at the age of five my family moved to Sweden where I spent most of my childhood. When I graduated from Fryshuset Kunskaps center, a school of Arts where I studied music. I moved to the States to pursue my music carrier.
What time of day do you make music, are you an early bird, or are you up late?
I spend a lot of time in the studio I like going to the studio at different hours of the day.
Do you prefer to listen to your own catalog of music or the radio?
I like to listen to all types of music it is one of the many ways that I find inspiration.
If you could pick one or the other what would you choose, the money or the fame?
To be honest I do music because that’s what I love to do. Getting paid to do what I love is definitely highly appreciated because it gives me the opportunity to venture into some other avenues such as fashion real estate and humanitarian work. I’m a businesswoman first and will always choose the bag before the fame.
If you could go back in time or in the future which one would you choose and why?
I believe in moving forward and not looking back but learning from the past is very important to avoid making past mistakes. So I have to pick going to the future because it would allow me to get an insight on what’s to come so that I can make better choices based on the information I get from the future.
How would you describe your musical style?
People compare my music to Solange, Ella Mai, and Jhené Aikio. I think my music a good combination of R&B Soul and Neo-Soul.
